Comments on Vulcan
Translation Here are some comments from VALD regarding their translation of this comic strip into Vulcan. Click on the comic strip above to read the English comic strip. The English:
Paraphrase of the Vulcan:
Notes: zhidokh is literally a breach of privacy, among the most disrespectful acts a Vulcan may commit if uninvited. Permission to do so may be sought without showing disrespect. Because it is uncommon to seek such permission from strangers except in emergencies, it is also uncommon to refuse permission if the breach amounts to no more than asking a question, though such a refusal is not in itself considered impolite. Even if permission to ask is granted, the person asked may choose to ignore the question or respond with a formal "I have heard your question," rather than asnwering. Beita responds using intensive reduplication (so that, essentially, Gaudy is very permitted) which attempts to capture the sense of the English "of course." |
