Basically, yes.

This is what I propose:

i-----bit
I-----beat
e-----bet
E-----bait
o-----bought
O-----clone
a-----clock
A-----back (american accent)
u-----but
U-----boot

I would have put "beat" as E as it sounds like an "ee" to me.
I would have but "bait" as A as it sounds like an "ay" to me.
The "I" would sound like "eye" to me.

Just my thoughts
