FW: Virus Warning! (Not a Joke) Whittaker, Pat Mon, 02 Nov 98 10:01:00 M ---------- From: Slansky, Rick To: All Users; Isabelle, Denise Subject: RE: Virus Warning! (Not a Joke) Date: Monday, 02 November, 1998 10:01AM From The Symantec AntiVirus Research Center (http://www,symantec,com/avcenter/data/win,a,holiday,html) Win a Holiday is not a virus. It is a hoax. The "virus" does not exist. There is currently no virus that has the characteristics ascribed to "Win a Holiday." It is a sham, meant only to panic new or inexperienced computer users. In addition, it is a mild variant of the "Join the Crew" hoax (form 4). Please ignore any messages regarding this supposed "virus" and do not pass on any messages regarding it. Passing on messages about this hoax serves only to further propagate it. Please do not forward virus warnings that you might receive by e-mail. There are many of these hoaxes about and you are helping those responsible by forwarding their warnings. If you have concerns about a computer virus please pass them on to Information Systems. Information Systems will put out appropriate warnings for any real viruses that you should be concerned about. -Rick Slansky ---------- From: Isabelle, Denise Sent: Monday, November 02, 1998 9:50 AM To: All Users Subject: FW: Virus Warning!
