Then the way I'd explain the difference beteen Spock's name and Vorik's is that Spock was the very first Vulcan in Starfleet. His father did not encourage the admission to the fleet. For instance, if Sarek was liberal (in the sense of military) then he could have named Spock differently at birth, but since he is not, and did not, we can see another pattern in this wierd kind of naming. Vorik, on the other hand, may have had parents who looked up to what Spock did, and decided to show in their son how liberal they were. After all, we know that "Vulcan is not of a piece", according to Sarek in Spock's World. So it stands that any liberalism to Surak's philosophy will be shown in one way or another. I just suggest that it may be shown in names sometimes. Others like the admiral and high-ranking officials probably grew up in Spock's generation, not Vorik's, showing a possible explination of their still having S and T' names. Maybe. > >Not even Sarek's other son Sybok changed his orthodox name when he reject= >ed >Surak's philosophy and was subsequently exiled from Vulcan. The names are different because of a different national background. But Tuvok is not necessarily "Black", so that doesn't really work well. -Sorik http://venus,beseen,com/chat/rooms/e/2763 email at surak_1*hotmail,com http://www,geocities,com/Athens/Olympus/9087/index,html > "The whole world will be different soon.
