Re: Vulcan names Steven Boozer Thu, 08 Oct 1998 14:32:52 -0500 : If you consider Voyager canon, I could cite that one episode where : they got letters from home, remember? T'Pel mentioned that their new : granddaughter was named T'Mina. Since Voyager hasn't been gone for : seven years, I assume T'Mina is still an infant or a toddler and : therefore wouldn't have been betrothed. : : T'Zaq It was spelled T'meni in the Closed Captions to "Hunters". But you're right, T'Pel wrote Tuvok that his "first son, Sek, had passed though the pon farr, mated, and had a daughter whom he named T'meni, in honor of his grandmother" -- presumably Tuvok's mother. Here's a list of the /T'/ names I know of from the episodes and movies: T'Lar high priestess at Mt. Selaya (ST3) T'meni Tuvok's mother (Hunters) T'meni Tuvok's granddaughter (Hunters) T'Paal "Romulan" Tallera's real name (Gambit) T'Para ancient Vulcan teacher in Raal according to Falor's Journey (VOY: episode name not recorded; anyone remember?) T'Pau elder of Sarek's House, a descendent from Surak (Amok Time) T'Pel Tuvok's wife (Hunters, et al.) T'Pring Spock's betrothed (Amok Time) Add to this the kohlinahr High Master at Gol, seen talking to acolyte Spock in ST:TMP, whose name escapes me. And remember that just as not all men have /S/ names (e,g. Xon, Vorick and Tuvok), not all women's names begin with /T'/. There was Dr Selar from TNG and, IIRC, a Vulcan Maquis agent who wanted to buy weapons from Quark on DS9. Anyone remember any others? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------- Steven Boozer The University of Chicago Library s-boozer*uchicago,edu
