Re: Summary of Some Revisions to the Revisions Dr Maggie Hellstrom, Lund Mon, 13 Jul 1998 09:57:17 +0100 (MET) Hallo, everybody! After reading the weekend's posts on transcriptions, I have a feeling I want to change my vote (if that's allowed ;-) - the situation is a bit confusing though, with the alternatives changing/being modified all the time, but that might not be such a bad thing? At the moment, I'm more leaning towards what Saul labeled as "B" in his recent post, but I "hate" the notion of using "f" to represent / - the only convenience I see in that is the ability to map the corresponding Vulcan font character to the "f" key on a keyboard... (That's actually another thing that one might want to fold into the discussion - when I adapted Rob's Vulcan characters to a TrueType font last year, I ran into a lot of problems deciding which key to assign to what character to make the thing as logical as possible! Of course, that will all have to be changed/revised after the current transcription issue is settled...) So, to summarize: my vote would probably go to Saul's "B" alternative, with the provision that "wh" or "w~" be used - the tilde character (~) is available in most keyboard character sets, so I think one could use it in transcriptions.
