The New List & Voting Once More Ryan McReynolds Fri, 10 Jul 1998 13:31:15 -0500 I like the change from to , and I agree that the needs to be added. Furthermore, the was a careless mistake, it should indeed represent an aspirated . I also left out the basic as in "Sarek" or "sehlat." I've got as in "xerox." So that makes the revised list: VOWELS (7) a e i ii o u uu CONSONANTS (32) b ch d dh f g h k kh l m n ng ny p q r rr s sh t th ts v w wh whl x y z zh ' Is there any additions, deletions, or other modifications that anyone thinks are necessary to this proposed transcription system? I'm just laying it here on the table, and I am more than open to suggestions. If nobody has any problems with this system (particularly Marketa) then I'd like to add it to the list to be voted on. I, for one, really feel an urgent need to standardize the Vulcan transcription ASAP, whether we use the Zvelebil, Epstein, or McReynolds transcription system. The longer we wait on this, the harder it will be to ultimately convert everything over. It seems to me that the transcription system is pretty much an integral part of the task of creating a language, eh? That said, I think it is pretty obvious that I would vote for my own system; after all, I created it! If nobody minds keeping up with a running tote board so we'll actually be able to see what's happening, that gives us: Zvelebil: 0 Epstein: 0 McReynolds: 1 ISA Symbols: 0 Wow, I'm in the lead! Just joking of course, this shouldn't be some sort of contest, it should be a simple vote to decide what system people find easiest to use for the purposes of learning and writing the Vulcan language. Who's next into the voting booth? I'm done here, methinks. -McReynolds
