Vulcan spelling MDriest Mon, 6 Apr 1998 17:06:43 -0400 Greetings all, Today, I received an explanation from Saul about the 'motto' he always pu= ts under his mails. Thanks Saul! (I refer to: Surak ow'phaaper the's'hi......) The verb 'to save', he translates as phaar. I can accept that. The only thing I wonder about is why he uses a bracket of two vowels = when Vulcan ZC already has 'long vowels' to begin with. The word could also be: pha:r. Or is there a difference between 'aa' and= 'a:'? Except in the Vulcan for yes, a:, I've never seen the long vowels used. Why is that? Another thing I fail to understand is why "Surak saved" is translated litterally "Surak he saved" (Surak ow'phaaper) and "we must save" is "the's'phaadzha= r" Why not translate "Surak phaaper" or "Surak'phaaper" as well? Peace and long life, Sorahl cha'Sereth =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D =2E.,and wonder, ever wonder why we find us here.
