On a non-linguistic technical note... It seems that the *,zip file format will kill or hang some PC-based TCP/IP implementations. That's not supposed to happen, as TCP/IP is "a data transparent protocol". It would seem that some Windows and DOS TCP/IP implementations are less than transparent. In the case I went thru and tracked this down, the TCP/IP stack provided by an Internet service provider would be stopped dead in its tracks, whereas a commerically supported TCP/IP stack worked just fine. Same OS, same machine, same ISP, same *zip files. My suggestion on how to proceed, is to find another machine to use that is running different software (or maybe the same software, but a different version), and try to access using that machine. The only other alternative, is to provide data in some format other than, or in addition to, a *,zip format. I've taken to doing zip files in Unix uuencode format, and providing both.
